My kitty, Astro, has finally been imported. She has been living with my ex since I went away overseas last year, and it hasn't been possible to have her come and live with me until now.

She is settling in alright - she is a little timid, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of the house, and looking out the windows contemplating escape into the backyard. She has found "her chair" now though, and is currently curled up relaxing there. She did sleep on my bed for a little while last night, and has started to eat too - its going well. I am happy she is here.

re-design madness

So, I wasn't happy with that little redesign a couple of weeks ago - I wanted to have a consistent design that was flexible and could incorporate all the stuff I have accumulated around here over the years. I think this fits the bill.

It seems to work well nicely in everything I have tested so far (ongoing testing) and is backwards compatible to 3x in IE and 5x in Netscape, but it does provide options that far back. It's my first all css layout - I'm a happy bunny!

WOW

I accidentally put up the test post for this swank new layout on the index page two days ago. Low and behold - two posts from long lost friends!

Its funny, I guess I assumed that no one was checking in here anymore, mainly because I haven't updated in so long, and that I have been off writing somewhere else because I didn't have the time or energy to redesign here, which is what I really wanted.

So, now I have - I make no guarantees about lack of bugs or annoyances at this stage - but let's see who else comes out of the woodwork now!

Old Places

Things are pretty strange at the moment - professionally, things are going very well. I have lots of good contacts here now, some good possible future options, including a couple of jobs overseas I am seriously considering applying for. Personally, things are not so great. I don't have a lot of friends here, so I feel quite isolated, and working long hours doesn't really help in the meeting of new friends. I also miss interaction and spending time with friends who are now geographically remote for various reasons. It's a difficult time and it makes me wish that I wasn't here a lot of the time, though I realise, for the wrong reasons. Maybe it's just that as you get older, its harder to start over again in a new place, especially if that new place is really an old place, one you don't have a lot of happy memories from?
